Okay,
I'm building another plane to replace the one I slammed into the ground. I'm pulling the parts off of the crashed plane, thowing away anything that looks damaged, and cleaning up and testing the parts that look okay.
The receiver is dead. It's a Futaba R138. Looks like they are obsolete. The R168 is a replacement and it costs $100.
Any of you ever sent something like this back for service? Is it worth it? Do they charge a boat load to fix it? Where do you send it?
Any hints would be helpful. Thanks,
Jon B.

Researched...
I researched sending back my Futaba 6exa transmitter. They wanted $35 for the service plus shipping & handling. If the item is discontinued, though, you need to check their discontinued list before sending anything back. Here is their service page:
http://www.futaba-rc.com/service.html
From what I can tell, the R128DF is not on their list of products which cannot be serviced, so they should repair it. You're going to pay $9 (2007 prices) for standard shipping, plus $15 for the receiver checkout. If they have to repair the unit, they'll charge additional for the repair, but that amount varies.
In this case, it may very well be worth the repair.
The process is straightforward: fill out their form, print out the resulting service form, securely package your unit and ship it to the indicated address along with your credit card information. They ship it back to you in a couple of weeks.
